SERVING OUR COMMUNITY ON AND OFF DUTY
The Aledo Police Benevolent Association 200 is an organization of full time, part time, and retired Aledo Police Officers. Our Association is comprised of persons who have been duly appointed and are regularly employed as Police Officers for the City of Aledo in the State of Illinois and such persons who have been duly retired or pensioned from such employment and has a membership in good standing.

The purpose for which this Association is organized are to foster and encourage it’s members to attain a high degree of skill and efficiency in police work; to elevate the standards of the Police Department by urging the elimination of politics from their conduct; to cultivate friendships between the many Officers and Police Departments in the various cities, towns, and villages in the County of Mercer; and to support the youth of our Community by holding fundraisers where the proceeds of our efforts will benefit our local youth and those who come from less than fortunate families.

ANNUAL APBA 200 EVENTS
APBA Scholarship Program- each year our Association will sponsor a $500.00 Scholarship awarded to a graduating Mercer County High School Senior. Applicants will be required to submit a 500 word essay on a topic chosen by this Association. For 2014 the Scholarship topic will be “How my future plans will enable me to contribute positively to my Community”. Completed essays must be postmarked no later than March 15th, 2014 and mailed to: APBA 200 C/O John Murphy 120 N. College Ave.Aledo, IL. 61231

Senior Citizen Appreciation Month- Every year during the Month of March our Association will pick a project within our Community which will benefit the Senior Citizens of Aledo. In past years this has included purchasing WII gaming systems for Vashti Village and the Mercer County Senior Center along with $250.00 worth of WII equipment which was donated to the Aledo Health and Rehabilitation Center, the Mercer County Nursing Home, and Heritage Woods. On March 1st, 2011 our Association will be donating a brand new dishwasher to the Senior Center.
Shop with a Hero- Each year our Association celebrates the Christmas season by sponsoring this wonderful program which provides $150.00 each to 40 area children who come from less than fortunate families for a Christmas shopping spree. The children are teamed up with local Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, Firemen, EMT’s and local Military Personnel and are taken to our downtown Businesses and Wal-Mart to purchase Christmas presents for their loved ones and themselves.

The 2013 Shop with a Hero Program will be held at the Aledo Fire Department on December 13th, 2013 and will begin at 5:00 p.m. The selection process is conducted by receiving a list of students in need which is provided to our Association by our area School Principals. The ages of children we assist are in grades K-5.

Fundraisers- All of the proceeds which fund the projects our Association participates in comes from; citizen donations, business donations, grants, and fund raisers sponsored by our members.

ARMED FORCES MEMORIAL PARK
In 2011 our fundraiser will be the creation of an Armed Forces Memorial Park which will be located at the intersection of S.W 2nd Ave. and S.W.2nd St.. Our Association will be involved in the sale of brick pavers which will be used in the Memorial.  The pavers may be purchased in honor or in memory of any loved one who has previously served in our Armed Forces. The pavers will have the service member’s name, rank, branch of service, and their years of service engraved on them. Pavers will also be made available to any person or business who simply wants to show their support and thanks to our area military men and women for their sacrifices. These will be referred to as sponsorship pavers and will have the persons name or their business logo engraved on the paver. A 4X8 paver will be sold for $100.00 and the 8X8 pavers are being sold for $250.00. If you are interested in purchasing a paver please contact:
